JUNETEENTH 2020: CELEBRATING 401 YEARS OF BLACK LIFE RESILIENCE
This event will be a VIRTUAL DIGITAL EXPERIENCE on Zoom that will be streamed via Facebook Live. The Facebook Live link will be shared here at 9:55 on June 20, and can be streamed.
Sponsored by the Rochester Branch NAACP and the African Descendants Mayo Employees Resource Group
We are creating an online event—including keynotes, performers young and old, health information and educational sessions—that will bring us together to connect, share, and learn from each other. This community’s Juneteenth celebration has been happening for many years and we are looking forward to continuing the tradition, just virtually!
Keynote speaker is Attorney Angela Porter, JD, who will share reflections on Juneteenth in light of the murder of George Floyd. Other speakers will include Matthew Horace, Chief of Security at Mayo Clinic, Dr. LaPrincess Brewer, Cardiologist at Mayo Clinic, W. C. Jordan, President of the Rochester Branch, NAACP, Dr. Eleisha Morrison, Ph.D., Psychologist at Mayo Clinic, youth voices reflecting on Juneteenth, and short sessions designed to educate and inform. We will miss the outdoors, but we will still find ways to celebrate our history, to celebrate Juneteenth 2020!
