The City of Rochester is the first city in the U.S. to join the international Intercultural City program. One of our first commitments is to measure our level of interculturalism using their Intercultural City Index tool. The tool helps us review our policies, practices and results in key thematic areas, including Commitment, Education, Neighborhoods, Public Services, Business & Labor Market, Cultural & Social Life, Public Space, Mediation & Conflict Resolution, Language, Media & Communication, International Outlook, Intercultural Intelligence & Competence, Welcoming Newcomers, Leadership & Citizenship, Anti-discrimination, Participation, and Interaction.
Purpose of this Session:
To review the final draft of Index responses. To make a recommendation to the City Council and Mayor to accept the Index and submit to the Intercultural City program for analysis. To make other recommendations for action. To celebrate completing this first milestone.
Who Should Attend:
Rochester business, organization and agency leaders, and citizens. Anyone with knowledge of activities, data and results related to the Index areas listed above. Anyone interested in the topic.
How to ask questions before this Session:
• For logistical questions contact Jenna Bowman, City of Rochester, 507.328.2913 or JBowman@rochestermn.gov
• For content and initiative information contact Dee Sabol, Diversity Council, 507.282.9951 or DeeS@diversitycounil.org
As the first city in the US to become an Intercultural City, Rochester MN will be completing an index questionnaire with collaborative effort with community organizations, the city and others to establish our baseline. We will also use the information to determine where we should focus our efforts to improve and how we compare to other cities.
