You know the saying: A picture is worth a thousand words. Join AAJA-MN and two photojournalists as they discuss the power of photography. Pizza provided.
COVERING STANDING ROCK: Richard Tsong-Taatarii, Star Tribune
Richard has been an award-winning photojournalist. Some of his recent achievement include NPPA Best of Photojournalism in the coverage of XL Pipeline Standing Rock protests in 2016, Black Lives Movement in 2018, and a World Press award for his picture of Philando Castile’s best friend John Thompson the same year. Richard brings attention to the joys and tribulations of Minnesotans as a staff photographer for the Minneapolis Star Tribune over the last 19 years. He is also a contributing photographer to Zuma Press. In 2018, Richard graduated with an M.A. in Visual Communication from Ohio University.
CONNECTIVITY THROUGH VISUAL STORYTELLING: Christine Nguyen, MPR News
Christine has always been intrigued by connectivity and everyday moments that make up our lives and relationships. As a visual journalist, she is driven by a curiosity to understand people; even the caretaker of a hospice care patient or a rodeo clown has an interesting story to tell or to inspire. Christine joined MPR News as the senior photojournalist in January 2019. Previously, she covered everything from politics to the Final Four to festivals as a newspaper photojournalist in North Carolina for over 15 years. Before that, she was also a managing editor at a small rural newspaper.
